Sign systems are interpreted in many ways. It varies geographically as well as culturally, depending on what people are exposed to in their daily lives; according to an era, one’s upbringing, reading and literacy or even inner philosophy. In the depths of thought, phenomena such as the human soul and faith are reached. In my work, I reflect on three widely recognized symbols – the sun, the tree and the snake – the meanings and beliefs associated with them. Through the medium of linocut, I reach abstract images, with which I seek to convey the ambivalent nature of these symbols.
