  • OPENING 59° 39´ N, 25° 42´ E | Transboundary spatial approach of Loksa port, Loksa and Lahemaa in the context of the Baltic sea countries
  • Tutor: Andres Alver, Douglas Gordon

Opening 59° 39´ N, 25° 42´ E is just a proactive spatial playthrough for opening up the spatial potentials of Loksa port, Loksa and Lahemaa. I place the area in the context of the Baltic sea region, Central-Baltic area, Finnish coast and Estonia. After spatial research i provide a vision for every scale (6 visions in total). Based on visions I provide a planning sketch for Loksa port, which contains of four alternatives. I call the alternatives as “openings”, because the main spatial intervention is to make the port partially public. In conclusion, for revitalizing shrinking and “declining” areas, huge investments are not always mandatory. Opening up the local potentials, rethinking the spatial possibilities and developing the transboundary networks, could also revive the situation.
